HDC Contributes to Digital Solutions Module of Sri Lanka’s PHC Leadership Course

4 December 2025

The latest edition of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Course in Sri Lanka featured strong contributions from the Health Data Collaborative (HDC), underscoring the growing importance of data, digital, and AI-driven approaches in strengthening PHC systems. Dr. Pandula Siribaddana and Dr. Craig Burgess participated as resource persons for the module on digital solutions, delivered in a blended in-person and virtual format.

The session, held on the fourth day of the course, brought together global insights from the PHC Leadership Programme, regional perspectives, and country-specific examples. Discussions focused on how digital solutions can optimize service delivery—particularly for Sri Lanka’s priority area of noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention and management. Participants also examined how better use of data complements earlier modules on PHC measurement and supports improved planning and coordination.

Thirty sub-national health managers attended the course, representing the next generation of leaders who will guide the planned reorganization of primary care services under national reforms. The module also benefited from inputs by KOFIH, which shared experiences on digital innovations for NCD management in Korea.

HDC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s PHC initiatives, emphasizing that the successful transformation of primary care requires a concerted, multisectoral effort—grounded in strong data systems, digital health capabilities, and responsible use of AI.

Further joint discussions between the Ministry of Health, WHO Country and Regional Offices, and partners are planned in the coming days to shape the next steps of the course.
